How one leader is making a neighborhood school great

Over the holidays, the Philly Citizen posted a great in-depth feature on Blaine Elementary, a neighborhood school in North Philadelphia. We invested $1.5 million from our Great Schools Fund because we believe in Principal Gianeen Powell’s commitment and ability to ensure that all of Blaine’s students succeed.

As the article details, Principal Powell is leading the transformation of Blaine, which has struggled for years, into a place where students will achieve on par with their peers in Lower Merion.

To date, the Fund has invested more than $35 million in leaders like Principal Powell; this year, we plan to invest $11 million in Philadelphia schools of all types. To get involved in this effort in 2015, please contact us.
