We were struck by the words of mother Toya Algarin, whose son is a junior at KIPP Dubois Collegiate Academy in North Philadelphia, in the Inquirer: “We can’t wait for more great schools.” You can also read more in the Daily News.
It’s hard to transform a school system from a one-size-fits-all approach to a diverse array of schools that meet the individual needs of families. Even harder amidst a budget crisis. But for the sake of the tens of thousands of Philadelphia families desperate to enroll their children in a better school, we must allocate resources toward what we know is working for children. We have to listen to parents like Ms. Algarin.
