Hundreds of parents rally for charter school expansion

In case you missed it, we want to share the news and photos of the hundreds of parents who rallied yesterday for the chance to put their child in a better school:

We were struck by the words of mother Toya Algarin, whose son is a junior at KIPP Dubois Collegiate Academy in North Philadelphia, in the Inquirer: “We can’t wait for more great schools.” You can also read more in the Daily News.

It’s hard to transform a school system from a one-size-fits-all approach to a diverse array of schools that meet the individual needs of families. Even harder amidst a budget crisis. But for the sake of the tens of thousands of Philadelphia families desperate to enroll their children in a better school, we must allocate resources toward what we know is working for children. We have to listen to parents like Ms. Algarin.
