Today we announced the Great Schools Fund will invest $4.7 million in high-quality Philadelphia schools so they can serve 2,000 additional students.
As PSP executive director Mark Gleason says in today’s Inquirer: “What is exciting about this [funding] round is that it shows the many different ways that the fund is available to invest in expanding access to great schools.”
The grants include (you can read more detailed descriptions on our website here):
- $3.5 million to Mastery Charter Schools to serve 1,638 more students in high-performing turnaround schools
- $1.1 million to Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia Charter School to serve 320 more students in a new middle school
- $50,000 to Building 21 to plan and design a new high school model in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia
The Great Schools Fund has now committed $26 million in investments to create and grow more than two dozen outstanding Philadelphia schools – including district, public charter and private schools – to serve nearly 13,000 additional students. From these investments we know that great schools come in all types, but they share certain things in common: outstanding teachers and visionary leaders who believe all students can achieve at high levels.
