We are excited to share some big news: today we announced that we are investing more than $10 million to power the launch of five new schools that will give 3,700 more Philadelphia students access to a great education. Read about it here.
The new schools will be run by Freire, Independence, KIPP, MaST and Mastery – operators that run some of the top public schools in the city. More than 10,000 families sit on their combined waitlists, and the new schools will be located in southwest, north and northeast Philadelphia where low-income students have limited access to good schools.
Today’s grants also underscore the mission of PSP. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Philadelphia can attend a great school, and when leaders – including the SRC – make decisions that align with the needs of students and families, philanthropy is there to support the effort.
In the next two months, the SRC will vote on more than a dozen new charter applications, school turnarounds and new innovative district schools. Thousands of families are waiting for a great school and we urge leaders to hear them.

In case you missed it last week, families are calling on Governor Wolf to save low-income scholarships for thousands of Philadelphia students. Read about it here.
