We celebrated the first day of school today at Mastery Frederick Douglass by announcing a $1.5 million grant to support the school’s continued transformation.
You can read about the announcement in today’s Inquirer.
Our grant to Douglass is an investment in two of the pillars critical to making Philadelphia a city of great schools: high standards and collaboration between school operators. Douglass improved as a Renaissance school under Scholar Academies; now Mastery looks to build on that progress and accelerate academic gains. We applaud Mastery and Scholar Academies for working together to develop a plan that ensures a smooth transition for the school and its families, and we look forward to working with both operators to continue transforming struggling schools in Philadelphia.
Our Great Schools Fund has now invested nearly $40 million in schools of all types in Philadelphia to help 17,000 students gain access to a high-quality education. Please contact us with questions or to get involved in this work.
P.S. In case you missed it, PhillyPLUS was honored this summer for its commitment to diversity and high-quality school leadership preparation. Read about it here!
